The PHATTY’s slightly less plump little brother, the CHUBBY 43 offers the same HDP (High-Density Performance) Foamcore technology and Solowall construction of its big bro in a 27.5+ rim. Designed to fit most 29er frames as well as dedicated 27.5+ frames, the CHUBBY provides a taste of the traction offered by fat bikes while maintaining the nimble and familiar ride of their all-mountain or trail bike, whether looking to make the most of the white stuff or just experience the trails in a new way. The Chubby 27.5 Plus features a hefty 43-millimeter width (36-millimeter inner diameter) to maximize the footprint of your plus tires, effectively hitting the mute button on trail chatter and offering gobs of grip. We also engineered the scant 15-millimeter low-profile design to minimize damage from trail shrapnel to keep them looking better longer. The minimal surface area also means there’s no place for the nasty stuff to hang on, reducing unwanted weight and mess when shredding snow, sand and muck.

The Chubby 27.5 Plus features an aerospace foam core wrapped in a layer of composite material that is molded into the structure, creating a pseudo-semi wall rim that boasts increased impact strength, energy dissipation and stiffness (illustrated above) while adding additional damping characteristics. The rim exterior is skinned with a custom blended impact-resistant layer of 12k weave carbon for additional protection and strength.
An added benefit of the extreme low profile of the rim is a greatly reduced surface area. This ultra low profile reduces the amount of rim surface that is exposed to sidewall impacts and trail debris, therefor limiting the exposure of the rim to damage.

Bead Lock
All Atomik Carbon rims utilize an angled bead lock to keep the tire bead positioned on the shelf when air is released from the tire and also adds a level of safety if a tire is leaking. This features allows you to refresh sealant without having the tire bead fall into the center of the rim, resulting in a tire that is more difficult to inflate and re-seat.
Hookless Design
The hookless wall thickness is a whopping 3.5mm and designed to help displace impact. The wall thickness is much greater than traditional hookless designs (as shown in the illustration above) and the additional strength provided by the thicker sidewall yields a rim that is light and extremely strong.
